|
Ericeira is officially the 1st World Surfing Nature Reserve in Europe and 2nd in the world, recognized by the American organization "Save the Waves Coalition", the promoter of this classification.
|
|
The coastline now confirmed as World Surfing Reserve extends along 11 miles of Atlantic coastline, from Empa beach, in Ericeira, to S. Lourenço beach, in Santo Isidro, Mafra.
The award of this important statute to Ericeira results from its international recognition as a leading surfing destination.
Presented last year, Ericeira's candidature fulfilled all requirements by "Save The Waves Coalition", including the quality and consistency of the waves, its importance for surf and history, the environmental characteristics of the surrounding landscape and local community support.
