Oceans set the beat

More than 40 thousand spectators danced to the sounds of the US singer Lauryn Hill’s concert on July 31 that marked the opening of the Oceans Festival and the return of the renovated Terreiro do Paço as a stage for major events.

With its new image that strengthens Lisboa’s standing on a European level, Terreiro do Paço was small to host the thousands of fans who enthusiastically turned up to watch the event’s main stars, from the British singer Estelle to the Portuguese band SEDA.

To mark the start of this free festival hosted by Turismo de Lisboa, the cultural event “Aquário da Palavra”, at Praça Camões, attracted around 3000 visitors during the first weekend.

Presenting an even bolder calendar than previous years, this 7th festival will amaze all visitors by the dozens of spectacular events hosted, that can only be experienced in the magical atmopshere created in Lisboa.

The Festival closes on August 14, at Doca dos Olivais, Nations’ Park, with a magnificent synchronised fireworks display, with the Tagus River as a backdrop. Just in one weekend, the Festival has already attracted around 50 thousand people at its various events.
