Ice cream in Lisboa, a must for the Summer

Lisboa’s hot summer days invite you to discover refreshing experiences and ice creams are surely a delicious option.

In the city’s Historic Centre, you will find two of the most traditional Portuguese ice cream parlours: Fragoleto, on Rua da Prata, and the recently opened Santini on Rua do Carmo.

Regarded by the Lonely Planet website as the tastiest ice creams west of Genoa (Italy) Fragoleto’s ice creams are known for their infinite flavours, all of them divine.

Prizing creativity and always amazing its clientele, Fragoleto features a wide variety of ice creams combing fruit flavours with aromatic herbs or even flowers such as the lemon ice cream with basil or strawberry with lavender. Founded in 1949 by Atillio Santini, Santini Icecream Parlou is another must of the Portuguese capital, proud to produce the “Gelati Piu Fini del Mondo”, keeping the founder’s recipe a well guarded secret, strictly followed for more than 60 years.

The unique flavours of Santini ice cream is in part due to the freshness of the ingredients made on the same day. With regard to the flavours, the fruit ones are the most sought after with the classic strawberry being the most popular.

Today Santini is located in Chiado, S. João do Estoril and in Cascais, where it was originally founded.
