Pirescouxe Castle

Skip the usual tourist routes and come and discover another castle close to Lisbon. In an area little visited by tourists, this castle is a special find.

Come and visit a 15th century castle in one of the least visited areas of Lisbon.

By the Tagus river, after passing Sacavém and before reaching Santa Iria da Azóia, you will find Pirescoxe and its castle.

In late Gothic style and adapted by Nuno Vasques de Castelo Branco for his residence.

This castle, on an elevation with a magnificent view of the river’s course, owes its name partly to a documentary reference mentioning Pêro Escouche or Pires, the Lame.

Choose the version that pleases you the most and be sure to visit this old fortified house that keeps the original towers and battlements.

Today, it is a cultural space with an art gallery and exhibition room.

Get out of the usual routes and come and visit this special castle so close to the centre of Lisbon.
