Lisboa no tempo de D. Manuel I - A cidade que ambicionava o mundo

In the year marking the 500th anniversary of the death of King Manuel I, the Museu de Lisboa is hosting an exhibition about the city during his reign.

At a time when Portugal was imposing itself as a global power, the king engaged in major changes to his capital to make it more efficient in managing the empire, while at the same time ensuring it become a hub for reaching both Brazil and China.

Moving the official royal residence to the Ribeira palace was just one of the many changes that can still be seen today.
