Vila Franca de Xira
The main objective of this thematic museum is to research and communicate the neorealist movement, as a way of preserving and dignifying decades of artistic and cultural output and social intervention by one of 20th Century Portugal’s most decisive cultural movements. The museum, which initially grew out of the archives and bibliographic resources of the neorealist movement, is organised into two main centres. The first of these is the Documentation Centre, which includes the library, the collection of works by significant neorealists and a fine art collection. The second centre comprises an exhibition space.
Parque Linear Ribeirinho do Estuário do Tejo includes a series of hiking and biking trails, with an approximate length of 6 km, which connect it to the Parque Urbano da Póvoa de Santa Iria, where you can visit the Núcleo Museológico A Póvoa e o Rio and a replica of Casa Avieira (fishermen’s typical house).
Enjoy new leisure areas, such as a playground, an amphitheatre and outdoor sports facilities (such as a volleyball net, skate park and gym) and a multi-purpose area with the Centro de Interpretação do Ambiente e da Paisagem, the Observatório de Aves and a coffee bar, whose structure follows a «beach» concept.
A boat trip on the typical boat Liberdade is an unique experience. A single visit affords nature, river and cultural tourism. The natural beauty only the Tagus can offer will remain in your memory.
