Monstra - Lisboa Animation Film Festival'22

Monstra is back in Lisboa with around 200 entries, ranging from feature-length through short to very short films.

The theme of the 21st edition of the animation festival Monstra is analogical and digital animation.

This year, Bulgaria is the honoured country and the starting point for this edition are the cinematographic aesthetic differences of Eastern Europe, promoting a retrospective on Bulgarian cinema.

In this theme the highlight is the world premiere of the film "To Put It Mildly", by Anri Koulev. The competition extends to more than 200 films, such as “Ma Famille Afghane”, by the Czech Michaela Pavlátová and “La Traversée”, by the French Florence Miailhe, in the feature films section.

“Bad Seeds”, by the Canadian Claude Cloutier and “Bestia”, by the Chilean Hugo Covarrubias, are the highlight in the category of short films.

In addition to the competition, there is a special program dedicated to Brazilian animated cinema, AnimaBR, which will feature “O Menino e o Mundo”, one of the five films nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2016.

The highlights are many in a festival which also marks the 85th anniversary of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and has more than 400 films, from 46 different countries.
