Almáa Sintra Hostel is an Eco Hostel and Retreat Center located in the heart of the Sintra Mountain Range classified by Unesco as a World Heritage Site. We offer private and shared accommodation located in 8.6 Acres (3.5 ha) of luxurious gardens and walking trails including an Olympic size irrigation tank where you can swim. Our house is sited in one of the oldest properties of Sintra - Quinta dos Lobos. It dates back to the 12st century. The Hostel was named Almáa which means “The Water” in Arabic due to the influence of the moors in this region and the fresh spring water that supplies the house and the gardens. “Alma” also means soul in Portuguese and other Latin Languages. Our country house is run on green and ethical principles. The house has been completely renovated using existing materials as much as possible. Our beliefs in sustainability and in helping one another motivated us to manufacture our furniture from recycled materials. Local artists have done this with the help of third sector entities including charities, voluntary organizations and social enterprises. These groups are also our main suppliers. We endeavor to use permaculture principles in all these activities. The Almáa Sintra Hostel believes it has been able to combine ideals, quality and fair prices. We feel we are on the right track as an institution concerned with the future of our country in particular, and humanity in general.
