This exhibition is based on tropical ethnobotanical knowledge regarding the traditional and local use of flora by African, Asian and American populations, highlighting its incorporation in the European science from the colonial Portuguese empire, with particular focus on the 19th and 20th centuries.

The exhibition displays ethnobotanical and ethnographic objects, pictures and films of the collections from Instituto de Investigação Cientifica Tropical (IICT) and MUHNAC.

Divided in three main modules – Care, Transcend and Transform – the visitor is invited to know the use that Man as made of plants throughout history for the most diverse purposes: medicinal, aesthetic, artistic, food, housing, transportation, clothing, furnishings, rituals, among others.
