This yellow house in Rua de São Bento is where the greatest fado icon lived for over half a century. Discovering and reliving the atmosphere that surrounded the world famous “Voice of Portugal”, gives you a better idea of who she was and what motivated this independent, determined and unique woman.
She was considered one of the greatest singers of the 20th century and had some of the best contemporary Portuguese poets writing for her. With over 170 albums and 30 million records sold, Amália is buried at the National Pantheon – a tribute to her unmistakable importance.
