Museum of Portuguese Decorative Arts
The Foundation fulfills its cultural mission thought the Museum of Portuguese Decorative Arts, the Arts and Crafts Workshops and completes its project with the schools. The Foundation organizes visits and activities for different kinds of public, and for different age groups.
The RESSF is an institution of private law and public utility founded in 1953 as a result of the Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva donation of the Azurara Palace and a decorative art collection.
The Foundation’s mission is to protect, sponsor, disseminate and pass the know-how in the decorative arts – movable and immovable heritage – in all its musicological, academic, technical and restoration aspects.
The foundation has the following structures:
• Museum of Portuguese Decorative Arts
• Arts and Crafts Workshops
• Conservation and Restoration Department.
This original organic model produces a dynamic relation between the Museum, the School and the Workshops, revealing not only a groundbreaking spirit but also a pursuit of integration witch were at the basis of the Foundation establishment. Moreover, the acknowledgement that artistic and heritage dimension must be inseparable from training, qualification and dissemination of know how is by itself an added patrimonial value.
