Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga
This museum was founded in 1884, and its collections of painting, sculpture, drawing, gold ware and jewellery, ceramics, textiles and furniture provide a panoramic view of the development of portuguese art and its contacts with the rest of the world from the 12th century to the early 19th century. Among its most famous works, are the Painéis de São Vicente (the São Vicente double triptych), a masterpiece of the 15th century collective portraiture, and the famous triptych, The Temptations of St. Anthony, by Hieronymus Bosch.
