These Side and Beyond Abstraction | Vieira da Silva

The exhibition ‘These Side and Beyond Abstraction’ reveals a series of figurative works that the artist produced during her early years in Paris.

Portuguese painter Vieira da Silva is generally associated with abstract art.

Alongside illustrations for children’s books, she has depicted academic subjects throughout her career, such as model painting, still lives, portraits, interior spaces and her well-known figurative self-portrait ‘Moi, réfléchissant sur la Peinture’.

The exhibition ‘These Side and Beyond Abstraction’ reveals a series of figurative works that the artist produced during her early years in Paris, for competitions and even while she was in exile in Brazil during the Second World War.
