Gil Vicente

Portugal and Spain in the Beginnings of European Theatre

This is the largest exhibition of Gil Vicente’s work to date.

With more than 145 pieces, there are books, costumes, props, drawings and 3D models of sets, puppets, paintings, posters, maps, photographs, videos, musical instruments and other objects from Portuguese and Spanish cultural institutions that allow a journey through Gil Vicente’s universe, which after 500 years, still arouses collective interest.

This exhibition seeks to rediscover the historical context of Vicente’s theatre production, while at the same time highlighting its relevance today
