European Museum Night - 13th May
International Museum Day - 18th May
2023 theme: “Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing”

The International Museum Day, celebrated annually on May 18, was created in 1977 by ICOM - International Council of Museums, in order to promote, within society, a reflection on the role of museums in its development.

Currently, museums serve a number of purposes as cultural platforms, extending beyond their mission to collect, conserve, communicate and exhibit, offering their visitors an ability to create and share.

It's also commemorated the European Museum Night, an initiative started in 2005 to encourage visitors to Portuguese museums to enjoy a different cultural experience.

Through the night the museums will open their doors and offer such activities as theatre and dance shows, concerts and guided and staged tours.
