Senhor Paul

-

Written in 1993 by German author Tankred Dorst, the play Senhor Paul [Mr. Paul ]now acquires a new relevancy, with surprising power dynamics and unusual forms of resistance.

Einzelheiten

Mr. Paul is an unusual man: he hasn’t left his home in years, and spends his days sat down, in extreme lethargy, resistant to any change or movement. A young man, who inherited the property Mr. Paul lives in with his sister, is looking to evict them to set up a lucrative business in the building. However, he didn’t count on Mr. Paul’s immovability and intelligence, which lead to a fierce battle with an unexpected outcome.

O Senhor Paul discusses the immobility of the status quo, as well as the advances in the so-called progress, with the example of the transformations regarding housing in big cities, or gentrification, which has become a global phenomenon. Written in 1993 by German author Tankred Dorst, this play now acquires a new relevancy, with surprising power dynamics and unusual forms of resistance.

O Senhor Paul premieres in September, inaugurating the 2025/2026 season. With the premiere of O Senhor Paul, we also celebrate Tank Dorst.
