The Parade of Samba Schools and Axé Groups is once again the centre of all attention in a carnival procession that is a true spectacle of colour and revelry.
The town of Sesimbra, south of Lisboa, much sought after for its beaches and good food, where fish and seafood are the highlights, has a carnival tradition that goes back a long way and is renewed with each passing year.
So much so that in July thousands of people make a point of coming to celebrate the Summer Carnival.
