His poetical works, which express the region’s religiosity, were only published posthumously, and are now on display to mark the 400th anniversary of his death.
A Franciscan friar, Agostinho da Cruz was also the poet of his day (1540-1619).
At the end of his life, he lived in a hermitage in Arrábida, where he dedicated himself to spirituality and to writing.
