Photographs of Portugal from the 1970s and 1980s taken by Todd Webb (1905–2000), one of the great American photographers of the second half of the 20th century.
The Todd Webb Archive has recently decided to donate the Portuguese holdings to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
The exhibition – the first in Portugal devoted to his work – will include the entirety of these photographs (around 60), accompanied by two small selections from his important projects on New York and sub-Saharan Africa (the latter in colour, commissioned by the United Nations after the independence movements).
Curated by Jorge Calado and produced by the Gulbenkian Art Library, the exhibition Todd Webb in Portugal will be on view from 10 April to 27 July 2026 in the Lower Gallery of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and will be accompanied by a bilingual catalogue.
