JOÃO MURTA EXHIBITION – BEFORE THE SEA, THE WATERS
Before reaching the sea, water needs time to become a river.

No ocean is formed in haste. Before the force of the current that carries us along in our daily lives, there are the springs, the tributaries, the pauses where the water rests and takes shape.

In his new exhibition at the Water Museum, the artist João Murta presents ‘Before the Sea, the Waters’ — a tribute to the invisible yet fundamental time involved in every journey.

New parenthood emerges as a bed where life is forced to slow down. One cannot rush the birth of a new identity, nor shorten the time spent caring for a child to keep up with the suffocating pace of the outside world. In the containers of his studio, the watercolours that dry slowly — traces of works interrupted by family life — become talismans of time that was not wasted, but lived.
An invitation to honour our own moments of pause and to remember that there is no sea without the slow flow of the waters.

The exhibition opens on 28 August at 6.00 pm, with the artist in attendance, and will run until 10 October.
