The new exhibition at the Pavilhão Julião Sarmento, Art is a Matter of Consciousness, opens on November 4, Julião Sarmento's birthday, and is curated by Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy, internationally recognized in the realm of contemporary art.

The opening takes place at 6 pm and includes a performance by Joana Bastos and the highly anticipated concert by Dorit Chrysler. The exhibition will be on display until February 15, 2026, in Gallery 2, accompanied by a vast public program that complements the curatorial proposal. 

The title of the exhibition, taken from a stamp created by Sarmento, supports an axiom that, although closed in its concepts, emphasizes abstractions that will dialogue with the artists, the public, and the museum space.

More than a conventional exhibition, the project is a living space for reflection, learning, and sharing.

The curator has brought together more than 30 works, not only from the Julião Sarmento Collection, and showcases works by Alejandro Cesarco, Alighiero Boetti, Céline Condorelli, Fernanda Fragateiro, Filipa César, Gabriel Kuri, Joana Bastos, Juan Araujo, Komar & Melamid, and Yonamine.
