FESTIVAL ‘CAUSA | EFEITO’ | 2ND EDITION
23, 24 and 25 May 2024
3 days: 8 concerts, 2 world premieres, 3 in Portugal and 1 in Lisbon, 2 masterclasses, 2 books being presented, and the hosting of the annual meeting of the Europe Jazz Network make up the programme of Causa | Efeito, a festival which, in its second edition, continues to offer the most innovative jazz and improvised music.

In the year that marks the 50th anniversary of 25 April, Universidade Nova is organising the second edition of the Causa Efeito - O Novo Jazz na Nova Festival, dedicated to the theme of Freedom.

Once again presenting a careful selection of the most innovative jazz musicians on the Portuguese and international scene, curated by Pedro Costa, this year the Festival is dedicated to exploring the dialogues between improvisation and creativity and jazz as free music over three days at the Campolide Campus.

Through concerts, masterclasses and debates, the Causa Efeito Festival ‘24 will host the annual meeting of the Europe Jazz Network and consider the link between experimentation and innovation, which is so important to the University.

This edition features three key names from the international improvised music scene - Eve Risser, Tim Berne and Michael Formanek -, proposes several premieres and new encounters, explores unlikely instruments such as the harp, the marimba or Eve Risser's prepared piano, and includes moments of reflection, debate and discussion, contributing to the articulation between research and artistic practice that defines the Nova Cultura Programme. Over three days, the programme takes place on the premises of the University Campus of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in the Auditorium of the Rectory, in the Sala da Esgrima at Colégio Almada Negreiros, and also in the garage of the Rectory.
