D.Maria II - from Brazilian princess to queen of Portugal

The exhibition presented at the King D. Luís Gallery, in the National Palace of Ajuda, brings together hundreds of works of art that illustrate a period as complex as it is rich, of national contemporaneity.


The exhibition presented at the King D. Luís Gallery, in the National Palace of Ajuda, D.Maria II - from Brazilian princess to queen of Portugal, it is the result of a wide institutional collaboration between the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic and the National Palace of Ajuda, with the participation of several public and private entities.

This exhibition brings together pieces from different museums of national heritage, the Regional Government of the Azores, municipalities and private collections, with hundreds of works of art and documents that illustrate a period as complex as it is rich, of national contemporaneity.

There are pieces recently restored by the José de Figueiredo Laboratory, namely several personal jewels of the queen and the Crown of Portugal, a symbolic piece that has not been observed by the public for more than two decades, as well as other restorations sponsored by the Museum of the Presidency.
