The Hesperian Symphony Orchestra comes to Portugal, specifically to Casino Estoril, Centro de Artes de Águeda and Coliseu dos Recreios, to perform, on November 3, 4 and 5, respectively, the opera 'Nabucco', by Giuseppe Verdi.
03/11/2023 - 21h00
Nabucco is Giuseppe Verdi's third opera, but it is the one that marks a before and an after in his career as a composer.
With libretto by Temistocle Solera, it was written in 1842, during the time of the Austrian occupation of northern Italy and, by various analogies, summoned Italian nationalist sentiment.
The Hebrew Slave Choir in the third act of the opera (Va, pensiero, sull'ali dorate, "Go, thought, on golden wings") became a music-symbol of Italian nationalism of the time.
This is an opera in four acts that takes place in the ruins of modern Palmyra and tells the story of King Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon who confronted the Hebrews and sacked the city.
