The American Pilot, by David Greig, premieres at Teatro Variedades, in Parque Mayer, in a production by Artistas Unidos, directed by António Simão. The production runs from 4 February to 1 March 2026, from Wednesday to Sunday.
First staged in 2005 by the Royal Shakespeare Company, the play begins with the crash of a US military aircraft in a remote valley in a distant country.
The local inhabitants take in the injured pilot and debate his fate, setting in motion a situation shaped by different perspectives on the world.
The American Pilot addresses contemporary global political issues through a clear dramatic structure, allegorical situations and a strong narrative focus.
The cast includes Américo Silva, Andreia Bento, Helder Bráz, Joana Calado, Marco Mendonça, Nuno Gonçalo Rodrigues, Rúben Gomes and Simon Frankel. The performance lasts 1 hour and 50 minutes, is recommended for audiences aged 14 and over, and is performed in Portuguese, with occasional dialogue in English.
