The countdown has begun for the start of a new chapter in the history of the National Music Museum.

The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for 22 November, a date historically marked by the celebration of Saint Cecilia, patron saint of musicians.

The programme includes several concerts and runs throughout the weekend and the following days.

The programme will feature a variety of musical moments with, among others, composer and percussionist Iúri Oliveira, the Foles Orchestra, the NOVA FSCH and Indonesian Embassy Gamelan Orchestra, and the LVSITANVS carillon, the largest and heaviest travelling carillon in the world.

The National Music Museum will have an immersive multimedia room, whose opening programme will include the premiere of a work commissioned from illustrator Bernardo Carvalho and musician Ricardo Jacinto, and ‘Harpa de ervas’ (Herb Harp), commissioned from composer Fátima Fonte and director Adriana Romero and developed from interviews with various personalities such as Ana Salazar, Afonso Reis Cabral, Álvaro Siza Vieira, Capicua, Herman José, Rui Paula, Simone de Oliveira and Vasco Palmeirim.

Between 22 November and the end of the month, admission will be free, although subject to capacity, and it is recommended to book tickets through the Portuguese Museums and Monuments Ticket Office.
