Folia is the name given to a melody and dance which had its origin in the 15th century and has been used in different harmonic schemes since then.
Several authors have tried to create a meaning for this Portuguese music and dance form.
In this concert, in a sort of tribute to classical music, the orchestra conducted Pedro Carneiro invites the audience to revisit the 26 Variations on “La Folia”, by Antonio Salieri, as well as the “Peasant Cantata” BWV 211, by Bach, and the “Folk Songs”, by Luciano Berio.
