From March 1st to 31st - Everyone knows that March is the month of shad in Vila Franca de Xira

The tradition of cooking shad, fish from the river, is still very much alive, where the presentation of this dish is already recognized beyond the municipality.

The riverside flavours and the importance of the Tagus River in the lives of the people of the region are honored. It is a traditional Portuguese cuisine, but above all, a compliment to the typicality and identity of this county marked by the life and dynamics of th eriver Tejo (Tagus).

Several restaurants of the Municipality propose to show their own art of well-preparing the shad. And, side by side, join the best wines of the region and finish the meal with regional pastry.

The month of March thus brings a number of good reasons to extend the stay of those who visit us and enjoy the paths and parks along the Tagus, endowed with a beautiful setting and offering various leisure, sports and cultural activities.
