Détails

The Adagio from Symphony No. 10, composed in the summer of 1910, is the only substantially completed movement of the work that death left unfinished. A dissonant and intense score, it reflects the composer's awareness of finitude and inner conflict, becoming a unique testimony to his final symphonic gesture.

Written between 1878 and 1880, Das Klagende Lied already reveals a young Mahler fascinated by theatricality and the palette of orchestral timbres. Inspired by the Brothers Grimm's fairy tale The Singing Bone, this three-part cantata combines soloists, choir and orchestra in a narrative marked by both popular lyricism and romantic expressiveness, anticipating many of the traits that would characterise his future language.

An expert in the late Romantic German repertoire, conductor Graeme Jenkins returns to Lisbon to conduct the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, the São Carlos National Theatre Choir and a cast of outstanding singers. A concert that will look back on Mahler's creative life, between his final farewell and his initial promise.
