MENTAL HEALTH RIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL

The Mental Health Rights Film Festival (MHRFF), a international film festival focused on Human Rights and Mental Health, promoted by the Lisbon Institute of Global Mental Institute (LIGMH) and the Lisbon Municipality, will take place on February 25th and 26th, at the Fórum Lisboa.

The MHRFF is developed under the MH Rights Project, a LIGMH project funded by the Active Citizens Programme (coordinated by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Bissaya Barreto Foundation), and has the collaboration of the Lisbon Municipality and other partners.

This film festival and international competition aims to showcase film works that deal with mental health issues, raising awareness within civil society to the rights of people with mental disorders and combating the stigma associated with them, thus contributing to a society based on mutual understanding and inclusion.

The festival also intends to contribute to the urgent debate on the protection of the rights of people with mental illnesses, at a time when important changes are being discussed in this field at European level, within the Council of Europe, and a review of the mental health law in Portugal is underway.

The MHRFF is a free acess festival of short films selected through a competition.

The presentation will take place throughout the two-day programme, which will end with the Award Ceremony. On this ceremony, there will be presented the Jury Award, selected by the festival’s jury, which is composed of its president, the director Joana Pontes, the psychiatrist and film critic António Roma Torres, the psychiatrist and member of LIGMH Graça Cardoso, and the actor and activist for human rights and mental health Pedro Granger, as well as the Audience Choice Award.
