In a devastated future where Pygmalions hunt and devour wandering Mannequins, a scrap dealer finds a silent figure who defies the established order.

From this encounter is born an impossible love story, on a journey where opera, electronics and visual theatre merge to reinvent the myth of Pygmalion in a profoundly contemporary dystopian universe. Pigmalião, the first Portuguese contemporary opera to reach Teatro Variedades, premieres on 17 September, running until the 20th, with music by Gerson de Sousa Batista, libretto by Tiago Schwäbl Martins and staging by João Vieira Fino, produced by Plataforma Cultural, with António Lourenço Menezes and Sara Afonso in the leading roles.

Performances Thursday to Saturday at 9pm, and Sunday at 4pm, with audio description on 19 and 20 September. All performances have subtitles in Portuguese. Tickets between €14 and €22.
