Balas e Purpurinas – 70 Years of Eurovision begins with a simple premise: among the many stages that shape Europe – from sport to music – one has, since 1956, helped define, challenge and energise the continent: the Eurovision stage.
Often seen as a major entertainment event and a symbolic embrace between cultures, the contest has also generated controversy, political readings and debates that go beyond music.
Performed in Portuguese, the production will be on stage on March 3 and 4 at Teatro Variedades in Lisbon. Written and directed by Henrique Feist, with musical direction by Nuno Feist, it revisits victories marked by specific contexts and moments when only melody seemed to matter.
Through songs and key episodes, it offers a thoughtful and emotional reflection on a stage that continues to mirror the tensions and hopes of our time.
