Fat Freddy's Drop Based on a True Story

Doing it for the love of music, the legendary band Fat Freddy's Drop returns to the stage in 2026 to celebrate the 21st anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album, Based On A True Story - with a stop at Sagres Campo Pequeno on September 23rd.

The tour, with 51 dates across Australia, Aotearoa, Europe and the UK, marks the band's return after the unexpected loss of founding member Chris 'MU' Faiumu. United in their decision to continue, Fat Freddy's Drop want to pay homage to their legacy and celebrate the album that started their musical journey. Vocalist Dallas Tamaira states: "It's important for us to honor the intentions we had with MU, and playing this album live is part of that." Released independently in 2005, Based On A True Story became a landmark in contemporary music—111 consecutive weeks in the New Zealand Top 40, the longest-charting album in the country, winner of eight NZ Music Awards, and recognized at the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Music Awards in the UK. Saxophonist Scott Towers adds: "This was our first studio album, and its success was the springboard..." "For an incredible journey. We want to pay homage to the music, to MU and to the band he helped create. And, of course, play for the fans all over the world who have always supported us."
