Giacomo Puccini – Messa di Gloria
[ Christmas Concert ] The work with the apocryphal name ‘Messa di Gloria’, composed for orchestra, four-part choir and soloists, will be presented in a concert on the day before Christmas Eve.
Giacomo Puccini’s mass will be performed by tenor Luís Gomes and baritone André Baleiro, accompanied by the Coro do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (São Carlos National Theatre Choir) and by the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa (Portuguese Symphony Orchestra), under the musical direction of Antonio Pirolli and the baton of maestro Giampaolo Vessella.
Created as a graduation exercise from the Instituto Musicale Luigi Boccherini, some of the parts of this work were conceived as self-contained compositions.
Other parts were also reused in the first operas, like Manon Lescaut or Edgar.
23rd December, at 9 pm, Teatro Camões, Passeio do Neptuno, Parque das Nações (buses: 26B, 210,728, 781).
