Leaves in the wind - The 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri is being marked in this exhibition of Alberto Manguel’s marionettes in the Casa Fernando Pessoa temporary exhibitions hall.
Manguel, a writer and researcher, is an expert on the works of the author of “The Divine Comedy”. Some years ago he revealed a hitherto unknown facet of his life: that of the amateur puppet master.
This exhibition combines his oldest passion with his most recent, with 89 marionettes that he created on the basis of the 14th-century masterpiece.
Visitors can also see the notebooks in which he has collected clippings of reproductions of the works that inspired him, as well as his original sketches.
Copies of “The Divine Comedy” owned by Fernando Pessoa and Alberto Manguel will also be on display.
An Argentine-Canadian, Manguel is currently the director of the Centro de Estudos da História da Leitura in Lisboa.
