Giselle - Dada Masilo
This is a new version of the iconic classic Giselle.
Designed by renowned South African choreographer Dada Masilo, it is set in a bustling South African village and tells the story of a naive peasant woman who is thrown into a world of betrayal and shame when her lover rejects her.
Despised by her family and dying of grief, Giselle returns from the dead as a supernatural being consumed by revenge, a role that Masilo takes on, bringing to the stage a combination of ballet, contemporary and traditional Tswana dance.
The music is by composer Philip Miller, and blends classical rhythms with African percussion and voices.
31st January and 1st February, at 9pm, Centro Cultural de Belém, Praça do Império (tram: 15 | buses: 728, 729).
Tickets: from 28 euros.
