Magnificat at São Roque

The Igreja de S. Roque church is the venue for the traditional Saint Silvester concert, which this year is dedicated to the Magnificat, the hymn of praises.

The music is from the Lisbon Consort Players and the voices provided by the Gulbenkian and Lisbon Consort Players, under the direction of Jorge Matta.

The contemporary language of the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, which is more meditative, will be interpreted in contrast to the liturgical 16th-century chants of João Lourenço Rebelo, who was Chapel Master to King João VI at Vila Viçosa.

The concert will close with a selection of “Sacrae symphoniae”, by Giovanni Gabrieli.

31st December, from 5pm to 7pm, Igreja de S. Roque, Largo Trinidade Coelho (tram: 24 | bus: 202, 758).

Tickets: 44 euros.
