O Meu Amigo Freddy Krueger (My Friend Freddy Krueger) is a solo play written, performed, and directed by André Murraças, inspired by his adolescence.
It tells the story of a young man growing up in the 1990s, who found refuge in horror films to escape the real world.
The show addresses themes such as bullying, fatphobia and homophobia through an honest account of school life, the cruelty of others and the difficulty of dealing with difference in a school environment.
By finding a parallel universe in the Nightmare on Elm Street films, where a horrific character — the terrifying killer Freddy Krueger, who attacked young students — lived, the young boy actually felt less alone in the world…
