New Age

-

Sound, light and matter converge in an installation conceived for MAAT's Studio Space. Through resonant objects and sculptural forms, encourages a renewed awareness of space's sensory qualities.

Details

João Pimenta Gomes (Lisbon, 1989) moves fluidly between the worlds of music and visual arts.

While the visibility of his work as an instrumentalist and producer quickly established him as a recognised presence within the Portuguese music scene, his creative practice draws not only on sound but also on image, drawing and sculpture to conceive synergistic experiences, most of which are performative and durational.

Often taking the characteristics of the spaces he occupies as a starting point, his projects tend to generate immersive environments in which interactions among objects, sound, and light are carefully orchestrated to produce continuous, engaging sensory experiences.

New Age is the latest manifestation of this ongoing line of enquiry.

Comprising around ten resonant, leaf-like metal objects, the installation was conceived specifically for MAAT's Project Room, responding to the particular qualities of its architectural design.
