Details

The exhibition SEEING AND READING presents the work of Paulo de Cantos (1892–1979). A pedagogue, artist, publisher and collector, he left behind a legacy marked by strong stylistic coherence and visually striking graphic objects.

The five thematic sections contextualise Paulo de Cantos’s body of work, proposing reflections on how design, as a teaching methodology, can reshape the way we look at and understand the world.

The book takes centre stage as the author’s preferred medium, but the exhibition also features school manuals, primers, essays, game-books and illustrated postcards, with particular emphasis on the so-called ‘double-faced books’.

Visitors are invited to draw, stamp and interact with the author’s universe. In doing so, the exhibition reaffirms the commitment undertaken by the MUDE to the research and dissemination of practices that bring together art, pedagogy and critical thinking through design.

On display at MUDE – Museu do Design until 6 September 2026.
