In an eclectic collection mixing ethnography, archaeology and art, the museum shows what life used to be like in this part of Lisbon in the 19th century.

The building and grounds belonged to an order of monks until 1834, when all religious orders were abolished in Portugal.

It was bought by Costa Cabral, a minister to Queen Maria II, who preserved the original religious and farming aspect.

Visit the chapel of the Invocação do Espírito Santo with its unique canvas by Bento da Silveira entitled “Pentecostes”.

Also take the chance to discover the richly decorative azulejo tiles in the cloisters.
An alternative attraction very close to Lisbon.
