Miradouro do Torel

This is one of the best-kept secrets in Lisbon, beside the most original urban beach in the city. Come and visit the miradouro which deserves a visit for its unique beauty.

The Miradouro do Torel is one of the new stars of Lisbon.
Located in the Jardim do Torel (garden) once belonging to an old 18th-century farm, it has a broad view of the Avenida da Liberdade and São Roque hill – home to the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara.

Surrounded by a garden and grand 18th- and 19th-century houses, what sets it apart from all the others is Lisbon’s “urban beach”.

The kiosk, playground and equipment are pushed into the background in the summer when sand is scattered beside the pond to turn it into a genuine beach.

You can reach it via the Elevador do Lavra or by Rua do Telhal.

With lots of shade and few tourists – Campo Mártires da Pátria is not one of the busiest areas – this viewing spot can be almost yours alone during the winter months.
