European Heritage Days

[ September ] The Heritage Days are an opportunity to re-familiarise ourselves with the past and to help shape the future.

The theme of this year’s European Heritage Days is Education.

The aim is to increase awareness of the essential role of education in both promoting heritage and in contributing towards it.

Among the activities scheduled for Lisboa are exhibitions, a guided tour of the Museu da Independência, heritage walks to discover a Roman city, “invisible places” routes from the age of slavery and a visit to the “fado singer and sailors’ district”.

The programme also includes recreational workshops, including “Cluedo” at the Palácio Pimenta, and “Jogo da Glória”, which encourages exploration of the 16th-century capital.

This joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission encourages community involvement in the appreciation and preservation of our heritage.
