On November 9, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa (OML) will perform Schubert’s Fifth Symphony at Tivoli BBVA Theatre.
Composed in 1816, this score combines the exuberance of a 19-year-old musician with the precocious maturity of one of the greatest composers of all times.
It is serene music, which does not rush into showy effects and relies on a style shaped by the legacy of the classical masters.
This approach is particularly evident in the third movement, such are the similarities with the Minuet from Mozart’s Symphony No. 40.
Indeed, it is with Mozart that this concert begins.
The motet Exsultate, jubilate was composed for one of the most virtuosic castrati of the time, Venanzio Rauzzini. We shall now hear the soprano Ana Rosa, winner of the 13th Opera Singing Competition organised by the Portuguese Rotary Foundation.
In between, the English maestro and composer Krišs Russman will premiere his latest work, conducting the OML.
