Miradouro de Santa Catarina

Visit Adamastor to see the view of Lisbon, without fear of storms. See the prettiest and most unforgettable sunset in the city, with music, conversation and good company included.

Few locals know of the Miradouro de Santa Catarina, but almost all of them have heard of Adamastor. It’s popular amongst the younger generation for watching the sunset, with a unique atmosphere of music, conversation and beer in the evening and into the night. The view is stunning and catches all of the Tagus estuary, the bridge and the rooftops. It has a small garden, but it’s the vast terrace that’s the real attraction, with a huge statue of Adamastor, the mythical figure created by Camões to symbolise the Cape of Torment. If you were wondering, that was the original name of the Cape of Good Hope and the place where so many Portuguese ships were wrecked. Finally rounded by Bartolomeu Dias in 1488, Adamastor ceased to be so scary and today is fine company for watching the sun go down.
