The Pavilion of Knowledge - Ciência Viva is an interactive science and technology museum that has been open to the public since July 25th 1999. It is an integral part of the Ciência Viva Centres Network and serves as both the driving force and resource centre for this network. 

The main objective is to stimulate scientific knowledge and promote scientific and technological culture among all citizens. The exhibitions and activities proposed allow visitors to explore many wide-ranging themes with interactive Exhibits, relaxing and having fun at the same time. 

Besides the major theme exhibitions, the Pavilion of Knowledge - Ciência Viva promotes various scientific and educational initiatives.

Estação Oriente is one of the most notable symbols of Parque das Nações. Even if you don’t arrive by train, this work of architecture is a must-see while in Lisbon. Created by the architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava, the elevated station has an impressive glass roof and an access tunnel that allows you to take unique photographs. It is one of Lisbon’s main links to the rest of the country, as well as the city within a city that was erected after the World Oceans Expo and gave the Tagus a new lease of life. The Pavilhão de Portugal is one of the major milestones in contemporary Portuguese architecture and unique in Lisbon. Only here – and only in person – is it possible to appreciate the grandeur of Álvaro Siza Vieira’s epic building. Created to represent the country in the 1998 World Expo that regenerated the Parque das Nações area, the Pavilhão de Portugal is designed to represent a look like a sheet of paper resting on two bricks. The huge concrete roof, weighing 1, 400 tonnes, is an award-winning masterpiece of engineering. If you visit, you’ll be impressed by the pure beauty and strength this building conveys when seen from afar – and the way it envelops you as you approach. Now belonging to the University of Lisbon, this remarkable building will be one of Lisbon’s major cultural hubs.

Considered the best aquarium in the world by Tripadvisor, in 2015, 2017 and 2018, Oceanário de Lisboa (Lisbon Oceanarium) creates emotions through the ocean and its 8,000 marine creatures.

Among these, rays, coral reefs, sharks and sea otters.

Touring through the permanent exhibition is an exalting experience for the senses. A big central aquarium, with five million litres of saltwater, symbolizes the Global Ocean. Surrounding this big aquarium, four marine habitats create the illusion that there is only one aquarium.

The visit it’s between two levels, at surface and underwater.

The temporary exhibition, “Forests Underwater by Takashi Amano”, presents tropical forests and their aquatic systems through the largest nature aquarium in the world, created by the famous aquascaper, Takashi Amano.
